Second page

Hi everyone! I’m working on my photos so I can post more things tomorrow. This class is very intense, so it really doesn’t leave me much time. Just letting everyone know that there is another page, which can be accessed at the bottom of this page and it says “Older entries”, so you can click there and it’ll take you to the other page, where you have a ton of photos and more stories. Most people are asking me whether I have more photos, without realizing that, in fact, there is another page with lots of them!

Hope to talk or see all of you soon… but in the meantime, just enjoy my blog! ;)

Red Caboose Motel

This is also in Lancaster and it appeared in the 20 best places to stay list on Traveler Magazine. It’s SO funny to see the cars converted into bungalows! http://www.redcaboosemotel.com/

And I’m here in the diner grabbing a bite, and looking very tired! Uncle Fester has nothing on me! Those dark circles around my eyes!!  Oh, well… this is kind of a reality show of the internet, so here I am!  Look at the decoration around me!

Strasburg

While driving around Strasburg, trying to see if we could photograph any Amish events, we had to wait for the train to pass by… and this is what I caught! A beautiful old machine with a conductor wearing an old fashion hat! The weather was terrible, so this is the best exposure I could get. Check it out if you want to read more about this railroad. www.strasburgrailroad.com

For my friend Celine

It turns out that every time Celine wants to disappear from the planet, she says she’s going to move to Timbuktu. I’ve always thought it was very funny… until Scott and I were driving through downtown Lancaster and I saw this window shop… then, I thought it was hilarious!! So, Celine, this photo is for you (we had to drive all the way around the block again so I could take the photo and post it here for you!!).

St Thomas Roasters

There is a very nice and cozy coffee shop, owned by Jeff in Linglestown. Jeff worked in the high sector and was laid off a few years ago, and decided to rethink his life and opened a cafe, something he always wanted to do. He’s a really nice guy and he loves his life now. I talked to him for a bit and he seemed to be very happy. Here’s a photograph of him and his cafe, from inside and outside. What a great way to take the bull by the horns and do what you want in your life… Hmmmmm… should I open a cafe?! Or may be a cafe/gallery??  I might have to lay myself off..

Amish Country

We also visited Lancaster, and the Amish country. They really don’t like to be photographed, so I respected that, but I couldn’t help but take two photographs, one of the man plowing and the other ones of the kids playing and throwing ball at a school recess. On our way there we drove through Willow Street City, where the movie Witness, with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis was shot. All this trivia is courtesy of Scott!

Gettysburg

My friend Scott took me to the battlefield of Gettysburg. It is very hard to explain with words. At times, I just couldn’t stop shivering and I got goose bumps. Just the thought that I was standing on the same ground as all those people who died (and in big numbers) for a cause, really moved me. And I bought a book at the store to know more about the tactics and details of the battle that gave the Union the victory of the Civil War (well, it was the turning point, actually, as the war continued for two more years). Here is a photo that I took there. Whoever comes to this area should visit the site. It has been rebuilt to make it look exactly the way it did then. Well, minus the cars driving around and the electricity lines! :)

All these flags (there were hundreds) had been planted there with the names of the people who contributed money for the remodeling of the Visitor’s Center at Gettysburg. It reopened on Friday.

From Harrisburg, PA to Rockport, ME

I am in Portsmouth, NH after driving in very heavy rain from Harrisburg. I am two hours away from Maine, where the workshop is going to take place. I will be there tomorrow early afternoon, before Hurricane Kyle hits the area (I’ll be photographing as much as I can… like those ridiculous anchors on TV flying all over the place or getting knocked down by gigantic waves or gusts of wind!). I am posting below some photos from the guided tour my friend Scott gave me: Gettysburg, Amish country, Strasburg and a town named Intercourse. Yes, Intercourse!

I will be posting more things tomorrow, hopefully from the storm/hurricane and about the workshop throughout the week.
